I have been thinking a lot lately about this one thing individual greatness

Each nation and its culture greatly influences how and what one views as greatness.

Indians, as a nation have been somehow glorifying few people or groups, dominating a particular field for too long, calling it a legendary thing.

When can we care enough to admit, how this culture has been pushing so many crores of people into an existential crisis, for way too long..

All in the name of legacy!

Some individuals/groups even boast about controlling an entire century..

What a shame, What a waste, of life, of creativity, no matter how much talent it had emanated..

Such domination is not a mere culmination of talent or skill, like its popularity portrayed, it is a sum total of many small violences, silences, not-giving-due-credits, opportunity grabs, status-quo, greedy-close-knitted-networks among many others..

This is also partly due to a social culture we have all in some degrees absorbed, where in we are told to measure success by how long one successes last.. We are rarely taught to appreciate humility, the art of evolving, the beauty of retiring, within which lies the continuance and explosion of life itself.

Such a culture not only stunts the depth and vastness of life, it removes evolution and diversity from the table, leading to averageness, no matter how otherwise it may seem.

Besides at the end of the day, who are we humans, when we cannot hold enough space for the others? Won’t we be like a fully loaded ship? which end up sinking, sinking in the weight of its own treasures..

Greatness imo, is so much more than the extent of of wins, it’s in how one holds and spreads one’s wins, within the vastness of life itself..

My soul longs for a culture of passing on, a culture of healthy competing, a culture of mentorship, a culture of stepping back, a culture of cheering for another, a culture of collaboration, a culture of diversity and evolution..

I have now come to a place, where i no more admire legends or super stars, as much as the precious leaders, precious-because they are rare, who have this beautiful blend of talent and character, like that of the waves.. they can both rise and fall, give and take, assimilate and influence, follow and be followed, dissolve and mix, and last but not the least, end it all with a splash..

    Be like the waves..
